 The purple heron (Ardea purpurea), known in Spanish as the imperial heron, is a species of bird associated with wetlands and reedbeds.
 

 
 In the Pitiusas Islands, it is mainly observed during migration periods. In Formentera, it has been recorded in the wetlands of l'Estany Pudent and l'Estany des Peix.
