 The prickly pear cactus (Opuntia ficus-indica), called chumbera in Spanish, is naturalized in the Pitiusas Islands.
 

 
 Its fruit, the figa de pic, is eaten fresh and is part of the local cuisine. In Formentera, it is also found in preparations such as figa de pic sorbet. (Formentera Tourism)
 

 
 Traditionally, the plant was also used to form fences and separate properties, taking advantage of its pads and thorns as a barrier.
