 Fennel is an aromatic plant very characteristic of the Mediterranean landscape of Formentera. It grows spontaneously along roadsides, in fields, and on dry land.
 

 
 Its stems, leaves, and seeds give off a very distinctive aniseed aroma. It has traditionally been used in the cuisine of the Pitiusas Islands to flavor dishes, preserves, and drinks, as well as being used as an aromatic herb in various preparations.
