 The rock wrasse is easily recognized by the two long barbels under its jaw, similar to a mustache. It uses these to explore the seabed in search of small crustaceans, mollusks, and other organisms on which it feeds.
 
 
 Its reddish, ochre and golden tones, along with the delicacy of its shapes, make it a particularly attractive fish for watercolor painting.
