 Posidonia (Posidonia oceanica) is a marine plant that forms large meadows in the waters around the Balearic Islands. It is not an alga: it is a true plant with roots, leaves, and flowers that lives completely submerged.
 
 
 Posidonia seagrass meadows are essential to the marine ecosystem. They help stabilize the seabed, provide shelter and food for numerous species, and contribute to the clarity and transparency of the water.
 
 
 In Formentera and Ibiza, these seagrass meadows are an inseparable part of the marine landscape and help to explain the characteristic color and luminosity of their waters.
 
 
 For painting and watercolor, posidonia represents another landscape of the islands: an underwater world of greens, turquoises and blues that continues beneath the surface.
